Kriti Sanon unveils the poster of her film based on surrogacy titled Mimi


After Filmfare carried the breaking news about her next film being based on surrogacy yesterday, Kriti Sanon presented the first poster of the film to the audience today. The Luka Chuppi actress shared the first look of Mimi on her Twitter handle and wrote, “Life is a journey filled with unexpected miracles. Get ready for a journey like never before, #Mimi !! This one’s gonna be soooo special… #DineshVijan @Laxman10072 @TripathiiPankaj @MaddockFilms @JioCinema” Based on Marathi film, Mala Aai Vhhaychy, which won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi in 2011, Mimi will be directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan.

The film deals with the growing practice of surrogacy in India. Kriti will be reuniting not only with her Luka Chuppi director, Laxman Uteka, but also with actor Pankaj Tripathi for the project. After Bareilly Ki Barfi and Luka Chuppi, Mimi will be their third collaboration. Producer Dinesh Vijan said in a statement, “There's a thrill in telling poignant stories and then there's a thrill in telling ones that are based on true events. Mimi is one such tale. It's a story that struck a chord with me, it explores a beautiful relationship between a woman, who never wanted to be a mother and the one who can't wait to be one. What's unexpected about the story is the humorous vein that runs through and that’s what makes Mimi exciting.”

Talking about the film, Kriti told Filmfare in an exclusive chat, “It’s not preachy at all. It’ll make you think. This will be the first film, which will ride on my shoulders as the protagonist is a girl. It’s challenging. I’m nervous about it.” Talking about playing a mother on the big screen for the first time, Kriti further added, “It’s an emotion I obviously don’t understand. You cannot understand motherhood unless you become a mother. It’s about a young character and her journey. It’s a new territory for me. I wanted to do something, which is relevant, something which is away from me as a person. And this is all of that. I’ll be starting this film towards the end of the year.”
