Birthday Special: Versatile characters portrayed by Janhvi Kapoor

Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor celebrates her birthday today. She is one of the most famous and celebrated actresses in the industry currently. Janhvi, who debuted in 2018 with the romantic drama Dhadak alongside Ishaan Khatter, has now done many versatile roles proving herself as an actress. She was last seen in Mili (2022), which has been hailed as one of the best performances of the year.

On the occasion of her birthday, we would like to share some of our versatile roles to date.

Mili (2022) - Mili Naudiyal

In Mili, Janhvi portrayed the role of Mili Naudiyal who works part-time at a restaurant named Doon's Kitchen and aspires to go to Canada. One night, Mili unknowingly gets locked in a freezer room which is at -18 °C. The whole movie is about Mili trying to survive in the freezing cold.

Mili is an official remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Helen. The scenes depicting Mili stuck in a freezer were shot in an actual freezer. For this film, Janhvi underwent "intense preparation" to portray her character, and said the filming process affected her both "physically and mentally."

Even though the film received mixed reviews, Janhvi was praised for her performance both by the critics and the audience.

Good Luck Jerry (2022) - Jaya "Jerry" Kumari

Good Luck Jerry is a black comedy crime film directed by debutant Sidharth Sengupta, written by Pankaj Matta, and produced by Subaskaran Allirajah, Aanand L. Rai and Mahaveer Jain. The film is a remake of the 2018 Tamil film Kolamavu Kokila.

In this film, Janhvi played the role of the titular character Jerry aka Jaya Kumari who is a poor Bihari girl whose family sells 'momos' and works in a massage parlour. One day, her mother falls and is diagnosed with stage two lung cancer. For the treatment of her mother, she needs ₹25 lakhs. Struggling with money-related issues, Jerry stumbles into a drug smuggler and soon starts smuggling cocaine in exchange for money to various different parts of Punjab, hiding from the police.

Good Luck Jerry premiered on July 29, 2022, on OTT and received well both by the audience and the critics. Janhvi was also immensely praised for her performance as Jerry.

Roohi (2021) - Roohi/Afza

Roohi is a comedy horror film directed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner Maddock Films. The film is the second instalment in Dinesh Vijan's horror-comedy universe, starting with Stree, and followed by Bhediya. The film stars Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma.

In this film, Janhvi portrayed the titular character Roohi who gets possessed by a demonic spirit and identifies herself as Afza.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) - Gunjan Saxena

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a biopic directed by Sharan Sharma and produced under Dharma Productions and Zee Studios.

In this film, Janhvi portrays the role of the titular character and Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena, an Indian female air-force pilot in combat.

Due to the pandemic, the film was released on the OTT on August 12, 2020. The film received 8 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor at the 66th Filmfare Awards. Many people applauded Janhvi's performance as Gunjan Saxena.

Ghost Stories (2020) - Sameera

Ghost Stories is an anthology horror film directed by Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap, consisting of four short film segments. It is co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Ashi Dua under their production banner RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment, respectively.

Janhvi appeared in the first story which was directed by Zoya Akhtar. This movie featured her as Sameera, a nurse at a desolate house taking care of ill bedridden elderly lady Mrs Malik (played by Surekha Sikri).

Dhadak (2018)

Dhadak is an official remake of the 2016 Marathi film Sairat. This film marked the debut of Janhvi Kapoor.

In the film, Janhvi played the role of Parthavi Singh Rathore, a rich girl from a political family who falls in love with Madhukar "Madhu" Bhagla (played by Ishaan Khatter), a young college student hailing from a middle-class family in Udaipur.
